Move your logbook from MacDive
Your whole MacDive history, profiles and all, into Diveology in a few minutes.
1. Export your dives from MacDive
- Open MacDive on your Mac and select every dive in your logbook (Edit, Select All).
- Choose File, Export and pick UDDF (or MacDive XML).
- Save the file somewhere easy to find, such as your Desktop.
A logbook of a few hundred dives with profiles is usually 10 to 30 MB. That is fine: Diveology reads files of up to 200 MB.
2. Import the file into Diveology
- Sign in to Diveology and open Import.
- Drop the file onto the page, or click to choose it.
- Check what was found, then choose Import. Tick Renumber every dive by date if you want your numbering tidied.
What comes across from MacDive
- Dives: number, date and time, depth, duration, average depth, water temperature, rating and notes
- Profiles: every sample's depth, temperature and tank pressure, and gas switches
- Tanks and gas: size, start and end pressure, air, nitrox or trimix
- Sites: name, country, region and GPS, matched to the sites you already have
- People: buddies, and the guide or divemaster
- Kit: computers, regulators, transmitters and the rest, with serial numbers, purchase dates and which dives you used them on (UDDF)
Tidied up on the way
MacDive exports sometimes list the same tank several times on one dive, or record an end pressure of 0 when it was not logged. A wireless transmitter that loses the computer near the end of a dive can read 0.2 bar. Diveology keeps one tank, takes the real end pressure from the profile and ignores the lost readings, so your breathing rate comes out right.
What happens when you import
In Diveology, open Import and drop the file in (or choose it). It is read on your device first: you see how many dives, sites and pieces of kit it holds, the date range, which dives are new and which are already in your logbook. Nothing is uploaded until you choose Import. Then the new dives go in, a batch at a time, and your sites are matched by name, country and distance so the same reef is not added twice.
Importing the same file again adds nothing: each dive keeps the reference it had in the file, and a dive downloaded by two apps is recognised by its start time and depth.
Questions
Should I export UDDF or MacDive XML from MacDive?
Either works. UDDF carries your kit and which dives you used it on; MacDive XML carries MacDive's own extras such as tags and weather. If you are not sure, use UDDF.
Will my dive profiles come across?
Yes: depth, temperature and, where your computer recorded it, tank pressure for every sample, along with gas switches.
What if I import some dives twice?
Diveology recognises dives it already has and skips them, so you can import a newer export over an older one.
