Privacy and security

Your logbook is yours

Years of dives deserve better than a password and an ad network. Here is how Diveology looks after them.

No passwords

Diveology never asks for a password, so there is none to reuse, leak or phish. You sign in with a passkey: Face ID or Touch ID on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, Windows Hello, or a security key. A passkey only works on Diveology itself, so a fake site cannot trick you into handing it over. You can also sign in with a six-digit code sent to your email, which works once and for ten minutes only.

For the strongest protection, turn email sign-in off and sign in with passkeys only, keeping a set of one-time recovery codes somewhere safe in case you lose every device.

You can see every sign-in

  • Every device signed in to your account, with a button to sign it out, or all the others at once
  • Recent activity: sign-ins, passkeys added or removed, security settings changed
  • An email whenever a passkey is added or removed, or email sign-in is turned on or off
  • Sensitive changes, such as removing a passkey or deleting your account, need a fresh confirmation

No ads, no trackers

Diveology has no advertising, no analytics trackers and no third-party scripts watching you. Your dives are never sold or shared. The only outside service the website uses is Apple Maps, to draw the map of your sites.

Stored in Australia, encrypted, backed up

Your logbook lives on Diveology's own server in Sydney, on encrypted disks, reached only over encrypted connections. Every change is backed up, encrypted again, within minutes of being made, so a logbook can be restored to any moment of the last four weeks.

Yours to take, yours to delete

Your logbook is your data. Under Account you can download all of it, every dive with its profile, every site, piece of kit and certification, as one file. Deleting your account deletes all of it straight away.

Diveology for iPhone is on its way

Your online logbook and this website come with the app. Until it is in the App Store, by invitation.
