Diveology in your grant application
Citizen science and monitoring grants ask how you will gather the data, look after it and involve the community. Diveology answers all three, and can be named as your project partner.
What we can bring to your project
A letter of support
Describing the platform, what it will do for your project, and our commitment to it, for the scheme you are applying to.
In-kind support
The research account, campaigns, hosting, storage and our support, free for the life of the project, stated for your budget.
Words for your methods
How campaigns work, the question bank, how divers are asked and what you get back, ready to adapt for your methods section.
Your data management plan
Where the answers are kept (Sydney, encrypted), how divers are anonymised and consent, who sees what, and the formats you get.
Built for your project
A question your program needs, a download in your format, a report, or a feature for your volunteers, quoted for your budget.
Divers already in the water
Every diver in the ocean survey who dives your sites is asked, not only your volunteers, so your project reaches further.
What your application can say
Adapt this for your own words:
Observations will be gathered through Diveology (diveology.com.au), a dive log app and marine citizen science platform developed in Australia by My Empower. Recreational divers who have joined Diveology's ocean survey are asked the project's multiple-choice questions after each dive they log at the project's sites within its dates, including where there is no mobile signal. Answers are anonymous: the project receives the day of the dive, a random observer number that changes each year, and the site once three different divers have answered there, with water temperature from divers' dive computers. Data are held in Australia, and exported as CSV for analysis.
Schemes Diveology fits
Each scheme has its own rules and rounds, so check its page for the next one. Some where Diveology fits well:
- ARC Linkage Projects: a university leads, and Diveology can be a partner organisation, contributing the platform, custom questions and the data collection in kind.
- Our Marine Parks Grants (Parks Australia): projects in Australian Marine Parks, including science and monitoring, with Diveology as the way divers take part.
- Great Barrier Reef citizen science: funding through the Reef Trust and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, for divers' reef health observations.
- Cooperative Research Centres Projects: industry-led research with a research partner, where Diveology can be one of the industry partners.
- State coastal and citizen science grants, for councils and community groups: Coastcare Victoria, Coastwest in Western Australia, and others in each state.
- Environmental philanthropy, led by a charity or community group: the Ian Potter Foundation, the Wettenhall Environment Trust (citizen science in particular), and PADI AWARE (for not-for-profits and PADI dive centres).
- AWS Imagine Grant, for registered charities' technology projects in Australia and New Zealand.

Questions
Can Diveology be a named partner on our application?
Yes, as a project partner or a supporting organisation, whichever the scheme asks for. Diveology is developed by My Empower, an Australian software company with an ABN.
Does it cost anything?
The research account, campaigns, reports, downloads and support are free. Only work built for your project, or Premium for your volunteers, would be costed into your budget, and we quote that before you apply.
How quickly can you write a letter of support?
Tell us the scheme, the deadline and a paragraph about the project. Allow a week, more near the big deadlines.
Our volunteers do not have Premium. Can they still take part?
The ocean survey is part of Diveology Premium. If your project wants its own volunteers to take part, talk to us about giving them Premium for the project, costed into your budget.
