A buddy's name, or a Buddy Link
Every dive has a buddy field you can fill in for free: just a name, for your records. A Buddy Link goes further. It connects your dive with your buddy's own log of it, so you can see what they saw on their computer, their profile drawn on your chart, as far as they choose to share.

You stay in control
- You choose what you share, dive by dive. Your notes, your sites' positions, your equipment and your other dives are never shared.
- Nobody can find you or add you without scanning your code in person, and no contacts are uploaded.
- Change your mind at any time: change what you share or unlink, and sharing stops at once. Block a diver and they can't link with you again, or report them to us.

Questions
Is a buddy's name on my dive the same as a Buddy Link?
No. You can type your buddy's name on any dive, free, with no account. A Buddy Link connects your dive with your buddy's own log of it, so you can see their dive, and their profile if they share it, beside yours. Buddy Links are part of Premium, for both of you.
What does my buddy see?
Only what you choose, dive by dive: just your name (to start with), the dive (site, time, depth, length and water temperature), or the dive with its profile, tanks, gas and computer. Your notes, your sites' positions, your equipment and your other dives are never shared.
Does it work with no signal?
Yes. The code is made on your phone, so it shows and scans out of range, and the link is made when both phones next sync.
Can someone find or add me without asking?
No. A link only happens when someone scans the code you show them. No contacts are uploaded and there is no search for divers.
How do I stop sharing?
Change what you share or unlink from the dive at any time, and sharing stops at once. Block a diver and they can't link with you again; you can unblock them later in your account. You can also report a diver to us.
